Friends beta support

Requirements

Friends host Forge on their own Mac or Macs and configure their own coding providers. This beta does not include access to the developer's personal servers. Start with the friends beta setup guide. You need an Apple Silicon Mac with macOS 26 or later for the bundled server. The mobile client needs iOS 26 or iPadOS 26 or later and access to a configured Forge server. Coding-provider accounts or a compatible local model service are separate.

If you can't connect

Check that the intended server is running and reachable from this device, that your saved address matches the server's current address, and that pairing is current. For Tailscale connections, connect both devices to the permitted tailnet. Screen Sharing working does not by itself verify the Forge endpoint. Do not send a connection token or provider credentials in a support message.

If a provider can't run

Select it in the composer and check its setup and authentication on the machine hosting the Forge server. Model discovery does not download model weights. Changing the selected Forge server changes whose model catalog and projects you see.

Reporting a problem

Include the app build/source stamp from Updates or Diagnostics, your device/OS, the selected server label, what you were doing and whether it repeats. Screenshots can help. Share diagnostic exports only after checking their contents; avoid including private project content unnecessarily.

Known behavior & open items

Coding providers can compact a conversation themselves even when Forge's automatic compaction is off. The reported September 12 events were verified as native Codex compactions. Reconnect improvements and an iOS scrolling-layout correction are included; normal-use confirmation of the latest iOS correction remains pending. An older physical-iPad crash report and occasional Mac unresponsiveness remain open. Please report any recurrence with the build and steps that led to it.

Updates

For mobile updates use TestFlight. For the Mac friend build, leave Beta selected in Settings → Updates; Stable is not available yet. On an older build, select Beta manually if that choice is available. Friends beta server installation on general Linux systems is not yet covered by a self-service installer.

Beta use and support expectations

This is prerelease software. Bugs, interrupted work and data loss are possible. Keep independent backups and review generated code, commands and changes before relying on them. Use only projects and systems you are authorized to access. Participants manage their own hosting, provider accounts, permissions and provider charges.

Support is provided on a best-effort basis, with no promised response time, uptime or fix date. Do not send passwords, server tokens, provider credentials or unnecessary private source code. This support page does not create a managed hosting or backup service.
