Forge Pro

Your coding agents. Your projects. A native Apple workspace.

Bring conversations, tasks, code changes and agent activity together on your Mac. Connect from iPhone and iPad through a Forge server you control, when mobile beta access is available.

Friends beta
Work in one place

Work in the same place you review.

Describe the change you want, follow the coding agent's work, inspect the diff and decide what happens next. Forge Pro keeps the conversation close to the project files, terminal, tasks and Git workflow behind it.

Coding conversation

Send requests, read streamed responses and tool activity, attach context, and follow progress as work happens. Outputs and execution depend on the provider you configure.

Files & diffs

Inspect project files and code changes, read diffs, and review the result of agent work. A review surface helps you understand a change — it doesn't certify it correct.

Tasks

Move through thread-focused Active, Pending and Completed views, open individual task history, and expand to the whole project when you need the larger picture.

Git & pull requests

Work with branches and workspaces, inspect changed-file and ahead/behind counts, and view pull-request details, checks and discussion. GitHub access is configured on the server.

Terminal

Use an integrated terminal tied to the selected server and project. Commands run on the server — not inside your iPhone or iPad.

Run controls & approvals

Observe run status, stop work, and respond to supported approval and question flows. These are workflow controls, not an operating-system security boundary.

Bring your own

Choose your coding provider.

Use supported Claude Code, Codex or compatible local-model configurations through the server you select. Bring your own account or model service and keep provider setup explicit.

Model discovery shows what the selected server can reach — it does not download model weights for you. Model availability depends on the server and provider you choose. Provider accounts, authentication and any usage charges are separate from Forge Pro.

Mac + mobile

Start on your Mac; connect from your other devices.

On the Mac, Forge Pro includes its own Forge server for local projects. The iPhone and iPad apps (“Forge Pro: Vibe Coding”) are companions — they require a connection to a Forge server that is running and reachable, letting you work with its projects and conversations from another device.

A separately operated Forge server can take the place of the bundled Mac server. The server you select determines which projects, conversations and model configuration are available; changing servers does not copy repositories between them. If your Mac is the server your phone uses, keep it awake with Forge running.

What "local-first" means here: project and session state belongs to the selected Forge server, which may be your own Mac. It does not mean all work stays on-device regardless of settings — hosted coding providers can receive prompts, attachments and relevant source context. A compatible local model is a separate configuration choice, not an automatic privacy or offline guarantee.
How it works

Three distinct pieces.

1

The app

The native interface where you choose projects, send prompts, inspect output, review changes and manage work.

2

The Forge server

The machine that owns the repositories, sessions, saved conversations, terminal processes and coding-tool execution. The Mac app bundles a server and starts it for local use; iPhone and iPad do not run this backend.

3

The coding provider

The configured agent, runtime or model service that carries out coding work. Accounts, authentication, available models and provider charges are separate from Forge.

Platforms & prerequisites

What you need, honestly.

This is an early friends beta. Each participant runs Forge on their own Mac or Macs and chooses their own coding providers. It does not include access to the developer's personal servers or a hosted coding subscription.

PlatformRole & requirementAvailability
Mac Apple Silicon; macOS 26 or later. Includes the local Forge server. Bring a supported provider account or compatible model service. Signed, notarized DMG for first install, then Sparkle beta updates. The first-friend installer is ready — email to request it.
iPhone Companion app (“Forge Pro: Vibe Coding”). iOS 26 or later. Requires a connection to a reachable Forge server; the phone does not host the coding backend. TestFlight build has passed Apple processing. External beta review is not approved yet, so external invitations are not available yet.
iPad Companion app. iPadOS 26 or later. Same remote-server model, with an adaptive native layout. Included in the universal mobile build. External TestFlight availability is pending review.
Dedicated server A separately operated compatible Forge backend can host projects and coding sessions. An advanced option, not required for a first Mac session. There is no self-service installer for arbitrary Linux systems, and no native Windows client.

A Mac user does not need to install Node separately for the bundled server. A chosen coding provider may still need its own installed launcher and sign-in. Pricing, a commercial license, enterprise plans and broad public availability have not been announced.

Invite-only friends beta

Want in? Ask for an invite.

Forge Pro is shared privately with friends — there's no public signup. If you'd like to try the Mac beta, just email me and I'll send the installer and setup details.

Built as a beta

Visible controls, honest edges.

Forge Pro exposes provider readiness, run status, approvals, diffs, usage information and diagnostics, so you can understand and inspect the work. It is still a beta, and feedback from real projects helps find the remaining rough edges. There's no claim of crash-free operation, universal syncing, offline use, or fully autonomous completion — just a workspace that shows you what it's doing.

Questions

Frequently asked.

Do I need a server just to use the Mac app?
The Mac app includes one and starts it for local use. You don't need a separate server machine — or anyone to host it for you — to begin.
Does the iPhone app run the coding tools itself?
No. It connects to a Forge server, and that server runs the coding tools and stores the project work.
Can I connect to my Mac while it's off?
A server must be running and reachable. If your Mac is the server, keep it awake with Forge running. A separately configured always-on host is another option.
Does Forge include Claude or Codex access, or a paid model subscription?
No hosted-provider subscription is included in this friends beta. You configure your own supported account or compatible model service. Provider availability and usage charges are separate.
Does "local-first" mean my code never leaves my Mac?
Not automatically. The selected provider may receive prompts, attachments and relevant code context. Read the privacy information and your provider's terms. Choosing a local model changes the setup but doesn't erase every other network or data flow.
Does model discovery install a model?
No. It discovers models available through the selected server or provider. Model weights and serving infrastructure must already be configured.
Can I use the Mac version while waiting for an iOS invitation?
Yes. The Mac app works independently. External TestFlight approval is required before invited external users can install the mobile beta.
Is this open source, a commercial release, or a permanent free service?
Those licensing and pricing questions haven't been announced. For now it's a friends beta with the requirements described above.
Lineage

Where it started.

1st generation

Forge began as Forge Lite — an agentic coding client built inside GaudeauAI, driving a real tool-use loop against local models with a worktree sandbox and approve-before-apply diffs. Forge Pro is the standalone, native successor. The prototype is kept on display for the curious.
